About The Tower

At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B&B holiday accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to a rooftop walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning?

The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide ‘Emperor’ bed and there is a TV in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite. A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Guests staying in the Tower also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle — the Great Hall — a magnificent old room with an original stone fireplace and log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Stone window seats are built into the thick castle walls, and up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie.

From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. Faside Estate is only ten miles from Edinburgh, with easy access to local golf courses, museums, towns and restaurants.

Super in every way!Really HUGE accomm for price, plus unusual nature of accomm, makes this stunning GOOD VALUE as well as just plain stunning! Looks like middle of nowhere, but good buses a walk away, and taxis home late, when you don't want to drive or fancy a drink. Owners friendly, helpful, informative, "continental breakfast" was large and varied, and all items replaced for 2nd day, and the views... Really would recommend to anyone. After 2 days, we felt we lived there, and will think same ever time we go past (we live in Edinburgh).

Tip: Lanna Thai IS great (taxi home £12 or less on Sun night), the David Macbeth Moir (Wetherspoons) next door is a nice conversion, and VERY cheap indeed. Good real ales too, quite a gentle atmos for big JDW pub. Mrs Forman's quite nice too. All these on Fa'side website. We also love Falko German baker/cafe in Gullane...and Sam Burns' Junkyard just W of Prestonpans - a great hour wasted before a walk on the shore and lunch in "the Goth" (also on Fa'side website. Fa'side has great blackberries, rosehips, nettles if there in season (we made blackberry margaritas!).

Ian & Susan are delightful hosts and the accommodations were wonderful. We stayed 2 nights. The breakfast provisions in the room were both tasty and generous, and food was restocked each day. Little touches, such as turning on a heater in the room so that it was warm and cozy for us after a day of sightseeing, made our stay extra special. The Tower room included exclusive use of the Great Hall, and we enjoyed an evening with the wood-burning stove (thoughtfully left ready to light) watching a movie. We'd stay there again.

Tip: Musselburgh is very close to Edinburgh and convenient for sightseeing there. Use the nearby Park & Ride or, if you are up early enough, drive into Edinburgh and park at the Waverly train station.

Fantastic place, very atmospheric. Good location, and close to town, the train etc. Local taxi company have fixed prices to stations and into Edinburgh, good value and easy too :) 5min drive to train station and then a 15min train journey into the center of Edinburgh. Very knowledgeable & informative owners, lot's of history. Would definitely stay again.

We loved how different this type of stay was. Everything about it was excellent, even better than I had anticipated staying in a castle could be! Go on try it for yourself!

Tip: We ate at the Opens Arms Hotel in the Library room, it was very good and we visited Gullane beach which could have been mistaken for the continent as the weather was so good.

The Tower is such a unique place to stay. Ian and Susan were very friendly and welcoming. Susan gave us a great pre-tour of the accommodation with info about the history etc. We knew about the steep spiral staircase so we were prepared for that! The fireplace was great with new a new supply of firewood on the second night appreciated. Fantastic breakfast supplies were provided. We were not used to a hand held shower so that was tricky to sit down to shower and wash our hair!

Tip: Ask the fantastic hosts and they will oblige! Thank you.

We had a wonderful stay. Very relaxing and romantic. The log fire was perfect and kept us entertained. As did the chess set! You made us feel really welcome, thank you.

Tip: Fairly easy to access North Berwick (with nice shops, walks along the beach and places to eat) and Dunbar (try 'the Rocks' restaurant for great seafood). Closer to Fa'Side, Luca's cafe in Musselburgh does great snacks and ice-cream.

Fantastic. If you need to get away from it all and you like a good castle, this is the one for you.

Tip: A quick drive to Edinburgh and to miles of wonderful Scottish coastline.

The building is set in beautiful surroundings and is an amazingly authentic castle experience. The highlight is certainly the grand hall beneath the main bedroom being romantic and magical in equal measure.

Tip: If you're looking for a more authentic castle experience, this is it. Many others can be more like a hotel, thereby reducing the effect. You should also be prepared to travel from the castle but this should be no trouble by car. The entire place should look even better in summer!

The property and facilities are wonderful. We were astounded by the content and quality of the continental breakfast, appreciated. The weather was cold during our stay and although the great hall was toasty warm the bedroom was a bit too chilly due to a heater not working. It didn't detract from the great time we had, just a point of note. Perhaps a discount to encourage return visits?

Tip: If you're going in to Edinburgh then the Eat & Walk tour is a must. Had a lovely meal in The Sun Inn near Dalkeith, make sure you book though.
