About The Tower

At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B&B holiday accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to a rooftop walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning?

The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide ‘Emperor’ bed and there is a TV in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite. A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Guests staying in the Tower also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle — the Great Hall — a magnificent old room with an original stone fireplace and log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Stone window seats are built into the thick castle walls, and up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie.

From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. Faside Estate is only ten miles from Edinburgh, with easy access to local golf courses, museums, towns and restaurants.

Where to begin? Staying at the Tower was living a fantasy yet we felt it was our Edinburgh home. The host family is delightfully helpful and informative. We will always treasure the memories we made here. Scotland has the most beautiful roses and I saw my first ones here in the magnificent garden.

Tip: We purchased salads and sandwiches at the M&S store in Waverly Station on our way home in the evenings. No restaurant could match the Tower for ambiance and we wanted to enjoy it as much as possible.

Our stay at Fa'side Castle was everything we had hoped. Historic and grand; fairly remote, yet close enough to the city. Thank you for opening a portion of your castle to us, who may not otherwise have this opportunity! And thank you for your warm hospitality!

Tip: Without a car, guests should bring all that they need for their stay. (No convenience stores or restaurants nearby.) Self-serve continental breakfast is "just right" for variety; wonderfully fresh and delicious.

Beautiful estate, lovely hosts. Our trip started out with a string of "bad luck" events which threatened to derail our Holiday. Upon arriving at Fa'side, our luck changed drastically due to our amazing hosts. The room(s) were comfortable and well stocked with anything we could need. We enjoyed learning of the history of the estate. It felt as if we traveled back in time with all the comforts of modern day. It was nice to discuss our itinerary with those who know the area and could offer advise on how to get the most of our time. We always felt very welcome, as if we were visiting family. Our experience at Fa'side was tranquil, relaxing, inspiring and comfortable. We would definitely return.

Tip: Car is a necessity. Park and ride for train to Edinburgh is close. Nice way to see the city but not have to deal with traffic. Close to major roads for day trips. After a long day of traveling it was lovely to return to the quiet of the Castle. We took day trips to Edinburgh, Fort William, Glencoe, and northern England. Conveniently located for outings.

Faside Castle was perfect in every way - the abundant food for breakfast, history from Sue, books of renovation, warmth of Sue and Ian, comfortable towels, beautiful furnishings, and exclusive use of the castle areas. But most of all, the castle was restored and given the perfect interior; the castle of our childhood dreams!

Delightful place and delightful people.

Tip: Edinburgh tour bus is the best way to get the lay of the land before making specific visits. Brittannia and Museum of Scotland well worth visiting.

Great stay. It was quite a treat to stay in a castle. Handy for Edinburgh where we stay.

Tip: We only stayed 1 night and live nearby. If you are in Midlothian I recommend going along to Gullane and up North Berwick Law
